Tuesday, September 27th The War on Democracy - by John Pilger - the US claims they are for spreading democracy but Pilger shows that through our actions, we have effectively declared war on democracy.

Thursday, October 27th What Went Wrong?: Q & A with Comsky - Noam Chomsky talks about what went wrong with the Obama presidency.

Friday, November 18th The Conscientious Objector - true story of a man who never touched a firearm but won the Congressional Medal of Honor.

Wednesday, December 14th A Walk To Beautiful - The film tells the personal stories of rural women who make their way to Ethiopia's capital, Addis Ababa, seeking treatment for obstetric fistula, a life-shattering complication of childbirth.

Tuesday, January 31st Savage Imperialism - Noam Chomsky looks at the US's history of racist imperialism and applies it to our actions now in World Politics.

Friday, February 17th Return to El Salvadore - how is El Salvador doing after their war, and why are so many people leaving their country? Interviews to find the answers.

Thursday, March 15th Palestine is Still the Issue - John Pilger interviews people on both sides of the conflict in Palestine and talks about hope for peace there.

Wednesday, April 25th Chemercial - by the guy who made "Garbage!" - a sometimes entertaining, sometimes scary look at the chemicals we invite into our lives.

Wednesday, May 30th The End of the Line - looks at the huge issue of overfishing - the oceans are being dramatically over-exploited so that many fisheries will no longer exist when our children are our age.

Films will be followed by discussion and refreshments.

Monday, September 27, 2010: Gut and Psychology Syndrome - This 90 minute presentation titled “Children’s Health” was presented by Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride, the author of the book “Gut and Psychology Syndrome”. A neurologist, Campbell-McBride cured her son's autism and will share her breakthrough theory on how biology of the gut affects emotional health.

Wednesday, October 20, 2010: Stealing a Nation - STEALING A NATION is an extraordinary film about the plight of people of the Chagos Islands in the Indian Ocean - secretly and brutally expelled from their homeland by British governments in the late 1960s and early 1970s, to make way for an American military base. The base, on the main island of Diego Garcia, was a launch pad for the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq.

Friday, November 12, 2010: DEADLY VACCINES: Garth Nicolson, Microbioligist - Awarded honorary Colonel of the U. S. Army Special Forces and a U. S. Navy SEAL (Honorary) for his work on Armed Forces and veterans illnesses. Are vaccines contaminated? Are they potentially deadly? Garth Nicolson, whistle-blowing microbiologist, addresses these questions in this talk at the Common Cause Medical Research Foundation Conference in Sudbury, Aug 29-31, 2008. As the top doctor in the military looking at Gulf War Syndrome, he is someone to listen to.

ROSALIE BERTELL Make Visible What's Happening An environmental epidemiologist for over three decades, Sr. Rosalie Bertell, a member of the Gray Nuns, PhD biometrics, is the founder of the International Institute of Concern for Public Health. In this film she covers chemtrails, HAARP, Depleted Uranium, her view of herself as a barefoot epidemiologist, faith versus gullibility, and more, from her scientific point of view.

Wednesday, February 16, 2011: Winter Soldier was an event organized by Iraq Veterans Against the War that broke through the media's over-simplified coverage with first person accounts of the occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan from soldiers who served there. We will also show "Conscience of a Nation: 30 veterans in 30 minutes."

Monday, March 21, 2011: The New Rulers of the World - journalist John Pilger takes a hard look at the effectiveness of policies of the IMF through their poster-child country: Indonesia to show how it creates poverty to enrich the few.

Friday, April 22, 2011: Holes in Heaven - Are we making Holes in Heaven? Monday, May 16, 2011: Legacy of Shame: Migrant Labor, An American Institution - In this program—a follow-up to the alarming 1960 broadcast Harvest of Shame, which first awakened the nation to the plight of migrant workers—correspondents Dan Rather and Randall Pinkston document the ongoing exploitation of America’s invisible laborers while highlighting efforts being made to protect them. Topics of investigation include pesticide risks, the uneven enforcement of employment and immigration regulations, and peonage, as well as the efforts of rural legal services and progressive growers to advocate for this silent minority and provide equitable employment opportunities. I'm starting to plan the films for the next season. Any comments or suggestions are welcome! Thus far, I've got (click on the title to see more information):

Life in Occupied Palestine, a documentary by Anna Baltzer - a Jewish woman working for the rights of Palestinians.

The World According to Monsanto (a French Film originally called "Le Monde Selon Monsanto" - don't worry it's in English!)

A Silent Forest: The Growing Threat, Genetically Engineered Trees made by the Sierra Club about the dangers of GM trees - there are already 100 test plots in the USA.

"Simply Enough: a Dialogue with Shane Claiborne and Tony Campollo" about radical Christianity's response to materialism (they are both wonderful and engaging speakers, and both local!)

FEMA City about the tent city that arose in Florida after Katrina.

Money as Debt, an entertaining cartoon-style documentary about how we got into this financial mess we find ourselves in.

The Power of Community: How Cuba Survived Peak Oil came recommended by two people, the name says it all.

The Fair Trade which has won many film festival awards.

I haven't yet made up my mind about "2012: Science or Superstition" and would like to show "Dr. Price's Search for Health" but am not sure it would work on our player.

September 30 - USA vs. Al-Arian - Follows the arrest and trial of Sami
Al-Arian, an Arab-American university professor accused of supporting a terrorist organization abroad. For two-and-a-half years, Dr. Al-Arian was held in solitary confinement, denied basic privileges and given limited access to his attorneys. This is a nightmare come to life, as a man is prosecuted for his beliefs rather than his actions.

October 14 - The End of Suburbia
What does Peak Oil mean for North America? As energy prices skyrocket in the coming years, how will the populations of suburbia react to the collapse of their dream? Are today's suburbs destined to become the slums of tomorrow? And what can be done NOW, individually and collectively, to avoid The End of Suburbia ?

November 11 – Sir! No Sir! – This banned documentary tells the story of resistance to the Vietnam war from within the ranks of the soldiers.

December 3 – Garbage!
From melting glaciers and oil slicks to our neighborhoods and into our homes, this film allows average people to connect the dots between their actions and the environment and be inspired to change their polluting ways.

January 22 - Life and Debt
This amazing documentary examines the way policies of the IMF, World Bank and other aid organizations have affected the Jamaican economy. This will help you understand Third World problems better than almost anything else! The soundtrack features songs by Bob Marley, Ziggy Marley, and Peter Tosh.

February 10 - Sustainable Table
There are many questions about the sustainability of our current agricultural practices. This film tries to find some of the answers to problems that we face today and will face tomorrow.

March 19 - Tiny Tears – a locally made documentary about the impact of AIDS on children, featuring West Chester's Camp Dreamcatcher.

April 21 - Your Humble Serpent: The Wisdom of Reuben Snake - Reuben Snake was a unique and compelling American Indian leader, visionary, and activist. The film emphasizes Snake's search for spiritual meaning in life, highlighting his influential ideas on the differences between the rational, "linear" thought of Western philosophy and the intuitive, "cyclical" thought of Native peoples. He criticizes Western philosophy for leading us toward the destruction of the earth, and argues that intuitive, cyclical thinkers hold the earth to be sacred and understand how everything is interrelated.

May 14 – Unlocking the Mysteries of Life
Featuring outstanding computer animation of the tiniest life-forms - cells that make up all living things, this film is about scientists exploring the scientific case for intelligent design, which is NOT the same thing as creationism.

June 10 - When I Came Home - About homeless veterans in America: from those who served in Vietnam to those returning from the current war in Iraq. Through the story of Herold Noel, an Iraq War veteran suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and living in his car in Brooklyn,
When I Came Home reveals a failing system and the veteran's struggle to survive after returning from the war.
